THE DOOR IS OPEN,
I’LL WAIT

THE ACTION OF LEAVING A FAMILIAR SPACE FOR A FOREIGN ONE RESULTS IN AN EFFORTLESS, YET EFFORTFUL COEXISTENCE OF BOTH, WHILE MAINTAINING THE INTEGRITY OF THE ORIGIN.

IN 1997, MY PARENTS IMMIGRATED FROM BUCHAREST, ROMANIA TO THE US. MEMORABILIA, TRADITIONS, AND FAMILIARITY WERE PRESERVED SUBCONSCIOUSLY, AND AS ATHE PAST INFLUENCES THE PRESENT AND FUTURE, THE NEED TO BELONG EXISTS.

THE DESIRE FOR FAMILIARITY REMAINS WITHIN THE FRAGILITY OF COMMUNITIES, AND PRESERVATION COINCIDES WITH ASSIMILATION. TRADITIONAL ROMANIAN EMBROIDERY AND BEADING ARE EXPLORED TO CREATE A COLLECTION OF TEXTURE, YET PROPOSED IN UNORTHODOX MATERIALITIES. A NEW WAY OF LOOKING IS ACHIEVED BY COMBINING TRADITION INTO KNITWEAR AND METAL STEEL, EMPHASIZING THE INTEGRITY OF THE ORIGIN IN UNKNOWN CONTEXTS. AS THE FUTURE IS UNSTABLE, THE FAMILIAR STABILIZES US, AND INVITATIONS FOR FOREIGN EXPERIENCES BECOME WILLINGLY WELCOMED.
